Turkey and Cranberries: The Perfect Thanksgiving Combination

by | Nov 21, 2021 | Cranberries

Yellow and orange leaves and the smell of pumpkin pie can only mean one thing…Thanksgiving is here! Thanksgiving is a time to relax, give thanks, and spend time with family. It’s also a time to indulge in a delicious Thanksgiving meal that wouldn’t be complete without turkey and a side of cranberry sauce. As Thanksgiving approaches us, let’s take a closer look at the mighty red cranberry.

According to Cranberry Agriculture in Maine: Grower’s Guide, Native Americans used cranberries as a food sources, clothing dyes, and as medicine. Due to their abundance and importance, it’s believed that the pilgrims and Native Americans would have eaten them at the first Thanksgiving. Today, cranberries (more specifically cranberry sauce,) are a staple at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
