I find it truly fascinating to think about how food can either help or hinder our aspiration of wellness. Taking a look at food beyond taste and through new eyes, it has an amazing power internally within our bodies. One way food can sway the body’s physiological state is related to inflammation. Some foods increase inflammation in the body and others are “anti-inflammatory.” Why this is important to each one of us is that chronic inflammation in the body can increase the risk of some diseases.

Eating to invoke an anti-inflammatory state starts with replacing low quality and overly processed foods with real and whole foods.

Here is a general way to get started:

Replace

refined grains,

high added sugar,

most saturated fats

trans fats,

high amounts of animal products

Include daily

whole grains,

fruits and vegetables,

nuts,

seeds,

plant-based proteins like beans,

spices

Here are some specific inflammation fighting foods:

Avocado

Beans

Berries – just one more reason I’m proud to call out my GF peeps (do people still say peeps?)

Cacao

Cherries

Cruciferous veggies

Dark green leafy vegetables

Garlic

Ginger

Green tea

Milled flaxseed

Salmon

Turmeric

Walnuts

The foods you choose to consistently eat really do have power to bring wellness from within!
